I saw lovely Lauren from Lauren and the Books start this series on her YouTube channel earlier in the year – she chats through 100 bookish conversation starters from the Lit Chat card pack. I think this is a brilliant idea – so I’m following along!

What book/author do you associate most with your high school experience? Your college experience?
My answer has got to be popular political satirist George Orwell (real name Eric Arthur Blair). I discovered Orwell during my History degree and fell in love with his writing. And actually, I really enjoy both his works of fiction and non-fiction.
He is better known for 1984, published in 1949, which journeys through Orwell’s nightmare vision of a totalitarian, bureaucratic world and one poor stiff’s attempt to find individuality. I absolutely loved this! It totally appealed to my sci-fi nerdy side. I also really enjoyed Burmese Days, a novel set in the days of the British Empire, this book eloquently describes corruption and imperial bigotry.
I have a fair few of Orwell’s books on my TBR, and the goal is to read most of what he has written! That’s no mean feat, as he has published SO much including novels, essays, and articles.
